Official WordPress.org recommended hosting provided

You are reading our exclusive Bluehost Shared Hosting Review. For general information and review, you can read our in depth Bluehost Expert Review.

Bluehost is one of the three web hosting companies which are recommended by WordPress.org, which is a very big endorsement in itself.

bluehost review

We were satisfied with using the shared hosting plans offered by Bluehost, all of which offered enough options and resources to help you get a website up and running.

A free SSL certificate is included with each plan, even the basic one and there is also a 30 day trial for Microsoft Email that you can check out.

Our CMS of choice was WordPress but the shared hosting also allows one click installations of other CMS platforms.

Bluehost offers a dedicated WordPress hosting package as well which contains advanced WordPress management and some promotional material that you do not get with the shared hosting plans.

Servers at Bluehost are equipped with some of the most cutting edge technologies to ensure an excellent experience for their customers.

Bluehost Shared Hosting Expert Review

We have used Bluehost multiple times in the past, especially with WordPress and each time we were satisfied with the level of service that we got from the company.

bluehost shared hosting plan features

Bluehost is among the few web hosting companies that are recommended within the WordPress community and the shared hosting is not just limited to this one CMS. There are plenty of options for those looking for more.

Bluehost is known for offering exceptional speed, security and a 24/7 customer support that is available to resolve any issues which you might have.

Unlike some other websites out there that review web hosting companies by advertising them as the best hosting service or the cheapest in order to attract sales, we follow a very transparent approach.

Our rankings are derived strictly from measurable metrics such as speed, cost and user experience.

The different hosting plans are there for a reason as not everyone has the same set of requirements. Some require less resources while others need more.

Here we will be discussing the shared hosting plans offered by Bluehost in detail and which one you might need.

Bluehost Shared Hosting Plans

Whether you are a small business or a startup, Bluehost has something for everybody in the different tiers of their shared hosting plans. Regardless of the plan, however, Bluehost offers their users SSD storage, an SSL certificate and a free domain

Bluehost Basic Plan

This plan is ideal for those who are looking to host a small blog or a website that is just starting off and is not expecting too many visitors. Starting off at $2.95/mo, this plan is quite affordable and offers features such as 50 GB of SSD storage and a free SSL certificate. It should be kept in mind, however, that upon renewal you will be charged $7.99/mo.

Bluehost Plus Plan

The plus plan costs a bit more at $5.45/mo but it is definitely a step up from the basic plan. You can set up unlimited websites and have access to unmetered storage as well. This is for websites that have a higher storage requirement and need for resources. You can also view website analytics that are collected by Bluehost and get a detailed report about the traffic on your website. Upon renewal, this plan will cost you $10.99/mo.

Bluehost Choice Plus Plan

While the choice plus plan has the same introductory price for $5.45/mo as the plus plan, it definitely offers more bang for its buck. Additional features such as Automated Backups and Domain Privacy + Protection are a part of this plan. Another key difference between this and the plus plan is that on renewal, the Choice Plus plan will cost $14.99/mo which is more than the renewal price of the Plus plan.

Bluehost Pro Plan

The Bluehost Pro plan is perfect for those who need the best that Bluehost can offer within their shared hosting tier. Starting at $13.95/mo, this plan not only offers the features of the other plans but also includes Optimized Website Resources and the best thing of all, a dedicated IP Address. Optional add-ons such as CloudFlare CDN are also available for an additional cost. This plan will cost you $23.99/mo at the time or renewal

Pros of Using Bluehost Shared Hosting

There is a reason that Bluehost is one of three recommended hosting companies by WordPress. When compared to some of the other hosting providers out there, the plans offered by Bluehost cost a bit less and the service for the money is good.

There are quite a few pros of choosing one of Bluehost’s shared hosting plans, some of which we will be discussing here.

Excellent Hosting Performance and Speed

As discussed earlier, the servers offered by Bluehost are optimized for providing the best website performance and speed. The shared hosting plans ended up offering all of the promised features when we ran benchmark tests for speed.

Easy to Use

If you are new to setting up a website and purchasing web hosting services, then it can seem like quite a daunting task. Thankfully, configuring everything on Bluehost is pretty straightforward. WordPress and other CMS platforms can be installed in a single click and configuring the offered SSL certificate is also fairly easy.

99.99% UpTime

UpTime is perhaps one of the most important metrics for any hosting provider out there. Any duration of time through which your website is down just translates to lost visitors and potential customers.

MonthUptime
August 201999.98%
July 2019100%
June 201999.98%

May 201899.99%
April 2018100%
March 2018100%
February 2018100%
January 201899.99%
With Bluehost, we monitored the uptime for the duration of a year and it turned out to be 99.99% which is excellent. This means that you will not be facing any unexpected downtimes if you decide to go with Bluehost as your hosting provider.

Superb TTFB (Time To First Byte)

Apart from Uptime, TTFP is also a very important metric, not only for end users but also for search engines. It is used to determine SERP rankings and a slower server response time can result in a decline for these. This also translates to a higher bounce rate which can mean lost customers. The TTFB offered by Bluehost shared hosting is excellent and it is better than many of the other hosting providers out there. This should be a relief for those who are considering Bluehost shared hosting.

Cons of Using Bluehost Shared Hosting

Bluehost is a popular hosting provider and they do offer excellent services for the money that you have to pay. On the other hand, while there are plenty of pros with choosing one of Bluehost’s shared hosting plans, there are some cons as well.

No Free SSL Certificates

You pretty much need an SSL certificate if you wish to set up a website online. They are usually included with hosting plans and it is quite easy to install them. You would expect that from Bluehost since they are among the popular hosting providers out there.

Unfortunately, that is not the case here and you will need to purchase an SSL certificate separately. In our opinion, a free SSL certificate should be part of all the plans at this point since it is such an important requirement.

Conclusion

Do we recommend Bluehost shared hosting? Absolutely. Bluehost has been among the top hosting providers for many years and there is a reason that it is officially recommended by WordPress. While we do wish that things like free SSL certificates would be a part of shared hosting plans, we still believe that you end up getting excellent value for your money.
